About Brenda Schack Designs

Who is the artist?

Hi there! I'm glad that you are taking the time to get to know more about me and the Artisan Jewelry that I make. My name, as I am sure that you have noticed by now, is Brenda Schack. I live in the beautiful state of Connecticut, which is where I make all of my Artisan Jewelry.

I have been making Artisan Jewelry since the early 90's. I started off at the Farmington Valley Arts Center learning how to string pearls and make jewelry from silver, brass, and copper. (Silly me, I thought I was going to learn how to create Indian seed bead jewelry.)

I finally did learn how to create Artisan Jewelry from glass beads...self taught and by scouring the internet for tutorials. In the mid 90's I left my job and went to school at the Worcester Center for Arts and Crafts. It was a great learning experience. I soon discovered a passion, no an obsession, with enameling.

Glass seems to be a common element in my jewelry designs. I love the way the light plays with the colors. This has led me to create one-of-a-kind Dichroic Glass cabochons that display a great deal of depth and color shifts.

About the Artisan Jewelry

Each piece of Artisan Jewelry on Brenda Schack Designs is created by me. Most of the jewelry on this site is one-of-a-kind or a limited edition. There is one very good reason for this. With the exception of my fold formed jewelry, making the same jewelry over and over again just isn't challenging for me. So be sure to check in often to see what is truly new on my site!

If you have something special in mind or a change that you would like to have made to a piece that you are admiring, please send me an email at: and let me know how I can help you.

My work is also avialable for purchase at the Farmington Valley Art Center (FVAC). Two galleries feature unique artisan selections from around the country. (directions)

How to care for Artisan Jewelry

No matter where your jewelry comes from you should always put on your perfume first and then go do something else. Put on your lovely jewelry last. Why? Because perfumes can react with the metals, rot the silk, and basically make your jewelry stinky!

Enameled Jewelry: Enameled jewelry is created from a specially formulated glass that is then fused to metal. To clean, simply wash the enamel with dish soap and rinse off in warm water. Be sure to dry your enameled jewelry with a soft cloth. The metal portions can then be cleaned with a jeweler's cloth.

Woven Glass Artisan Jewelry: Your Woven Glass Artisan Jewelry is made from special sheet glass that is cut and individually assembled together prior to fusing. The cabochons are encased with a weave of colorful Japanese beads. Each piece is backed by leather, strung on a satin twisted cord, and finished with a toggle clasp. To clean the cabochon, spray a glass cleaner on a soft paper towel and then rub the cabochon clean. Do not soak this type of jewelry.
